This park is a great place to go if you want to get away and relax a little, have a picnic and at the same time get a piece of history. Heritage State Park is locate on the outskirts of Fall River just along the Taunton River. With a newly built walk way you can take a stroll for hours at a time. The park attracts families, joggers, kids and “mans best friend”, its great to go see on a beautiful sunny day. This park is fully accessible to wheelchairs and has many areas of attraction to keep entertained. There is a museum which has a ramp to enter and it is very open and spacious inside. It is easy to maneuver around all of the exhibits in the wheelchair. The bathroom is very large and fully equipped for us who are physically challenged. Get a history of Fall River and the textile industry in the auditorium. Bring your picnic basket and set up on the spacious lawn or the picnic area that have picnic tables high enough to accommodate tall wheelchairs. If your timing is just right you might even enjoy a live concert in the grass area (call the chamber of commerce for details).

Lastly, for a small fee, there is a running carrousel you may enjoy if you are able to transfer into. Unfortunately, this is the only downfall. It is very inviting when you first go into with the spacious entrance and the elevator that brought you up to the carrousel; then to realize that there was no ramp to get onto the ride. My staff were good enough to lift me onto the carrousel, if it wasn’t for them I would have been very disappointed since the building was recently built and you would think it would be full accessible. Nevertheless, I enjoyed myself.

I give Heritage State Park FOUR STARS for accessibility due to the carrousel ride not having a ramp. If they were to install one I would definitely give this review a 5 star rating.
