After using the Auto Ambulator at Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital, my friends and I went to Bertucci’s for lunch. Bertucci’s is wheelchair accessible but should make a few minor improvements regarding their accessibility.
Handicap parking spaces are conveniently located close to the main entry door. There are two sets of entry doors that you will need help with opening for the doors are not automatic; the entry doors are wide enough to fit my wheelchair. The first set of entry doors had a broken handle so it was propped open; I was told it was being fixed later that day.
Once inside a nice hostess sat us at our table. The tables are of a good height for my wheelchair. Our waitress came over and took our lunch order; she was very friendly, respectful and kind. Our food was good and the service fantastic.
The restroom is wheelchair accessible, yet the handicap stall is too small to fit my larger sized tilt and space wheelchair; I did manage to fit inside but it was a very tight; an average size wheelchair could fit inside easier; the safety grab bars are located around the toilet at a reachable height; the accessible sink is of a perfect height but the pipes underneath the sink are not covered as is now ADA required; the soap and towel dispenser are in my reach.
I give Bertucci’s THREE STARS for wheelchair accessibility. In order to earn the other Two Stars, they would need to install automatic entry doors so a person in a wheelchair can enter independently; enlarge the handicap so all sized wheelchairs can fit; and place protective covering around the exposed pipes under the accessible restroom sink as is ADA required.
